Week 4: DFI

Weekly ....WWW....Feedback to our bubble groups each week. This is such a nice way to start each week. Sharing with each other the successes and struggles we have had. As I watch all the guru’s at play making it look so easy. I really enjoy hearing from others who are still facing the same challenges as me and putting something new into their practise each week. It is a steep learnng curve at times but I am very grateful to be given the time and the opportunity every Thursday to learn about so many different things. Some of which I can say I have been using but not necessarily in the smartest way! What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy ? Share: This week I loved the nana's car analogy Dorothy used to describe the place Blogs still have for our learners as a sharing platform. The fact that it may not be the flashiest most up to date tool but it is still extremely effective and teaches the basics to all. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Using Google Sheets- I can really see how this would he Handy: Especially the ... Colour coding of student data and test scores specifically so that you are able to clearly see those students who scored well above or well below. What did I learn that could be used with my learners, how could they use it? I can see real classroom applications in having created a table of how many blog posts KK had done each month over a period of 2-3 years . - lAlso using the sum to work out the totals for each year and the average for each month .
Then presented this information as a column graph. I think this may highligt to our students the huge range in the number of posts our learners make and put the accountability and responsibility back onto them.

DFI Week 3: Reflections

 DFI Week 4 : Reflections

I really enjoyed listening to Dorothy this week and her explanations around  the pedagogy behind the create task and the real value it has for learners and that it does not always have to be digital but can be physical, arts and drama etc. It was real food for thought reflecting on 60 years ago how much more hands on doing there was within the students day. How can I include more of this for my learners?

This week learning to add the google slide to my own blog posts is valuable. I also learnt with alot of support from Maria how to add a background color to my blog and how to add a photo and text to the sidebar.

I still need support to practise splitting the  screen so on my DFI days.

This would help me to be able to practise and have a play with the new learning while I can what Maria is sharing the screen.  Next weeks goal!

Embedding a video from You tube - Just for practise

I am practising to see if I can embed a video from youtube. Cindrella story

DFI Learning Week 2

This week we learnt how to Embed a Video into our  blog post. I did not know how to do this previously> It is something we ask of our students to complete occassionally for themselves as part of a create task during reading. So now I can help my team trouble shoot and support our learners if they need help.

DFI Week 1

 DFI    Week 1 Reflections

What did I learn that I could use to improve my confidence, capability and workflow?

This week:

How useful Google Groups could be.

-  How I might use this as a means of communicating with my team.

-  How I might set up student and parent/whanau groups as an easy way to communicate with larger        groups.

-  I have begin the process of organising my google drive and this week my challenge will be to add some colour coding to my folders.

-  For the sanity of those I work with !  The power of 'shift Z' to add to my docs folder instead of using MOVE as this has a negative impact on others.

What did I learn that I could use with my students ?

- Voice to text as a tool ..... to easy!

I can see myself implementing this tomorrow as there are many student in my hub that this would simply remove so many barriers to communicating their awesome ideas.

My challenge will be to keep incorporating this and making it easy for students,

Lastly the creation of a google doc to revisit some well known fairytales.

As I would normally have defaulted to a google doc
